Asia Argento is an Italian actor and director of films who came from a large family of both. She's pursued the two professions her own. In 1985 she made her acting debut in Sergio Citti's Sogni e bisogni. In 1988, Michele Soavi's The Church was directed by Michele Soavi and she played in the role of Cristina Comencini's Zoo. Red Wood Pigeon, directed by Moretti in 1989, featured her character in the role of Nanni Moretti's young daughter. Close Friends (1992) by Michele Placido (both writer and director) is where Asia truly began to begin to take off. It helped her move beyond the role of cute girls to more complicated and mature characters. It was a huge success during the Cannes International Film Festival. The Phantom of The Opera is her third film together with her father. Trauma and The Stendhal Syndrome were her first two. The Phantom of the Opera will be her third film with her Father, her first two movies being Trauma & The Stendhal Syndrome. Asia's dedication and passion for acting has also been used by Giuseppe Piccioni in Condannato a nozze. She also had a featured role in the international cast of Queen Margot produced by Patrice Chereau. The year 1995 was the first time she was in a role alongside Michel Piccoli as Traveling Companion as played by Peter Del Monte. This role won her both a David di Donatello (for the top actor) as well as a Grolla of Oro. Asia started directing in the year 1994, and produced two shorts: Prospettive (1996), a document on her father and her mother, as well as Abel/Asia (1998), a film about the cult filmmaker Abel Ferrara. The latter won an award from the Rome Film Festival. In 1999 Asia began her film-directing career by directing Scarlet Diva (2000), where she acted as the main actress and writer for the script. The film was released in May 2000, both in Italy as well as throughout the rest the world. The film won a prize during the Williamsburg International Film Festival, Brooklyn. Anna Lou, her first baby, was born to her in 2001. She has directed numerous music videos. In 2002 she starred in The Red Siren by Olivier Megaton along with Jean-Marc Barr, and in the action thriller directed in the film by Rob Cohen, with Vin Diesel. Asia is the creator of numerous short stories that have been published in various magazines.
